Celebrate with a Sweet Sugarplum Complementary Scheme

Sweet Sugarplum Celebrate Card

Sweet Sugarplum, the Tint of the Violet-Red Color Group, would normally be complemented by a member of the Yellow-Green Color Group in the Split Tertiary grouping.  However, all the current colors in the Stampin’ Up!® collections only have members in the Green-Yellow Color Group.  That means it’s time to consolidate the Tertiaries

I chose Pear Pizzazz for the contrast color to represent the Yellow-Green/Green-Yellow Color Group.  It is a Tint and doesn’t provide high-contrast to Sweet Sugarplum, but it looks good.  I accented the background layer by sponging the edges with a Sweet Sugarplum Classic Stampin’ Pad, then stamped the leaves of the tree with an Old Olive Classic Stampin’ Pad.  I also wanted grass images underneath the tree, but Old Olive didn’t show up as well.  Luckily, the Shade of the color group is Always Artichoke and is very visible.

Sweet Sugarplum and Pear Pizzazz are a soft Complementary Color combination.  I picked them for a more conservative celebration card design suitable for a friend’s Retirement.  The combination works well for Baby, Birthday, Friendship, Congratulations, Thank You, Get Well, and Sympathy cards and scrapbook pages.  The brighter Complementary colors will also work well for the same themes.
