Real Red Complementary Colors Christmas Card - Visit

This Red and Green color combination is actually a Split Complementary Color Scheme. Real Red, from the Red Color Group, has the Green-Blue Color Group and the Green-Yellow Color Group as Split Complements.

I had already decided to use the holly pattern from the Season of Cheer Designer Series Paper pack, which includes the colors Mossy Meadow from the Green-Yellow Color Group and Real Red. There is a nice contrast between these two colors, but when I added the patterned paper, it didn’t stand out as well. It needed something between the Mossy Meadow holly leaves and the Mossy Meadow Card Stock layer. I selected Mint Macaron from the Green-Blue Color Group and inserted it behind the paper. The holly pattern really stands out!

The holly leaves on top of the greeting tag are die-cut with Leaflets Framelits Dies, then trimmed. I was going to cut holly leaves freehand, but this was easier. I was going for effect, not accuracy. The veins are hand-drawn with a Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Write Marker.

You will need to dye the Whisper White Satin Ribbon with alcohol and Real Red Classic Stampin’ Ink Refill drops. Start with about 10 drops of ink and 2 of alcohol. Mix well and brush over the piece of ribbon. Add ink and alcohol as needed to get the color you want. Let air dry or use a heat tool, then iron out any wrinkles. If you blot, the blotter will leach out color. Brush the same mixture over the metal-rimmed pearls to color them. Use a Blender Pen to remove color from the rim, if you like.

This combination is good for Christmas and Holiday-themed cards and pages, Party Invitations, Thinking of You Cards. I would not use it for December birthdays, these people tend to prefer to keep the two occasions separate!
