Real Life Color Coach Color of the Week: Night of Navy

Night of Navy Hummingbird Card - Visit http://www.3amstamper.com

Night of Navy is the Shade of the Blue Color Group.  Although I usually introduce the Real Life Color Coach Color of the Week with a Monochromatic Color Scheme, I found the stamp set I wanted to use didn’t work well with Night of Navy and the Hue of the Blue Color Group, Pacific Point.  The two colors don’t provide enough contrast with each other, so I added Whisper White layers to separate them.  (I also adhered a Whisper White layer on the inside so messages would be readable – if you’re using metallic ink, you probably won’t need this.)

For the hummingbird and flower images, I first tried a technique shown at a conference last year that used three-step stamps and a single color.  Frankly, Night of Navy by itself looked very blah and adding Pacific Point didn’t help any.  Instead, I fell back on the old stand-by, light color first, then medium, then dark.

The combination uses Night of Navy, Marina Mist from the Blue-Green Color Group, and Garden Green from the Green Color Group on the hummingbird; Soft Sky from the Blue-Green Color Group, Marina Mist, and Pacific Point on the rose; with Wild Wasabi from the Green Color Group and Garden Green adding the leaves.  I call this an Analogous Plus Color Scheme because the Cherry Cobbler throat of the hummingbird is in the Red-Violet Color Group, which is two groups away from the Green/Blue-Green/Blue combination.  Previously, I called the combination a Wide-Angle Analogous Scheme, but I like Analogous Plus better.

This combination is good for Friendship, Sympathy, Spring and Thank You cards.  The combination works well for a variety of scrapbook pages, too.  As a side note, this design is nice and flat, so it mails without extra postage!
